Sunday Music - Stella Stevenson and Erik Augis

December 16, 2018

Stella Stevenson was raised in the small town of New Philadelphia, Ohio along with her three sisters by their immigrant parents. Stella was exposed to music at a very early age as her Father played in many local combos as a lead vocalist and guitarist. She studied classical voice from elementary through college and was a church cantor. It wasn’t until eighteen years ago when Stella would immerse herself in the jazz genre when she first heard pianist Erik Augis playing live for the first time at Easton Town Center in Columbus. Stella is a wife and mother of three children and holds a bachelors degree in Biology and Masters in Business Administration. Stella is a Senior Account Executive for a large corporation by day and jazz vocalist in the evening and weekends. Despite her busy schedule, Stella always makes time for music because of the way in which it touches people’s lives. “There is something about music that can spark a memory that has the power to heal and soothe the soul. I’ve seen it with my very own eyes, and this is why I sing.”

Jazz pianist Erik Augis is a native of Columbus, Ohio. After obtaining his degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music he returned to Columbus and began work as a freelance musician. Erik has been performing in Columbus for several years and works with many of the area’s well-known musicians and bands including Andy Woodson, Kim Pensyl, Dan Faehnle, Louis Tsamous, Pete Mills, the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Jazz 4 Kids, Vocal Impact and many others.
