Barcelona’s 25th Anniversary Celebration!

September 30, 2021

Dear Columbus,

We are thrilled to announce Barcelona’s upcoming 25th Anniversary!

Can you believe that Barcelona has been a part of the Columbus culinary scene for 25 years now? For two and a half decades, we’ve been host to so many special gatherings of friends and families: engagements, weddings, reunions, celebrations of life, and so many babies! 25 years of love and laughter that we’re so lucky to have been a part of, and we’re thankful every time you walk through our doors.

In November of 1996, in the building that once housed the legendary German-themed restaurant and tavern Deibel’s, Barcelona Restaurant and Bar opened for business. Now after a quarter of a century of operation, Barcelona – which introduced tapas, small plates and upscale Spanish cuisine to the neighborhood and Columbus – has likewise become a German Village institution.  Barcelona offers an authentic global dining experience, inspired by seaside sangria and a walk on the Ramblas.

Just as the community and world around us, Barcelona has evolved and grown. Our offerings have changed, the space has been transformed through multiple renovations and upgrades, and our dedicated team has expanded. But no matter how big the change, we have held steadfast to our commitment to offering you the best culinary experience, outstanding service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere.  We’re amazed at how far we’ve come, and we’re grateful for your continued loved and support.

Our success over the past 25 years is due, in part, to one very special group of individuals: the team members of Barcelona. I am grateful for each and every person that has passed through our doors and spent time taking care of you, our guests. I am blessed to have so many team members that have been around for as long as they have. Our most senior member has been part of Barcelona for 19 years. Another handful has been with me for over 10 years. I could not have done it without my team of dedicated employees, and I truly appreciate each and every one of them.

German Village has given us so much love and support over the years, and our success could not have been realized without Columbus cheering us on the entire way. It is our pleasure to be part of such an incredible community, and it’s an honor to give back to the neighborhood that has embraced our business for 25 years. We are proud supporters of local & community causes such as Mid Ohio Food Collective, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, BalletMet, the Columbus Symphony, Livingston Ave United Methodist Church Food Pantry, Equitas, Art for Life, Keep Columbus Beautiful, the German Village Society, the German Village Business Community, Dine Originals Columbus, and a multitude of other community fundraisers.

The past two years have been challenging, to say the least, but we made a promise to survive and thrive and be able to celebrate our upcoming anniversary, and we’re keeping that promise.

So how do you celebrate 25 years of being a part of German Village and Central Ohio? With a calendar full of special events, of course!

  • German Village Open House Monday, October 11
  • Barcelona’s Woodford Dinner, Monday, October 25
  • Los Amigos Supper Club, Thursday, October 28
  • Flamenco Show and Dinner,Monday, November 1
  • Spanish Cocktail Party, Wednesday, November 17

In addition, part of our celebration will be to support the community around us. We have teamed up with Roots Café at the Reeb Ave Community Center on the South Side of Columbus. Roots Cafe is part of the Mid-Ohio Food Collective, the largest food bank in Ohio, and a portion of all ticket sales will go towards addressing and ending food insecurity. We will have a basket full of goodies to be raffled off at each event, with all proceeds going to Roots Café.

More information will be available soon; tickets for specific events will be available on October 1st. Watch your email inbox, Facebook, and our website for details!

Thank you, Columbus, for your continued support and patronage for the past 25 years. Here’s to the next 25!

Thank you,

Scott Heimlich
