Artist’s Reception
Tuesday, February 3, 5 to 7pm
Lawal Said is a Nigerian American painter and graphic designer whose work explores the intersection of music, memory, and emotional resonance. Educated in painting at Yaba College of Technology and graphic design at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh (B.A., 2012), Said’s practice spans media—from early experiments in pencil and pastel to his current focus on large-scale acrylics.
His paintings are theatrical and tactile, marked by fauvist color, expressionist gesture, and layered surfaces that suggest time and archive. Said’s work transforms private recollection into communal experience, inviting viewers to feel rhythm, ritual, and the emotional architecture of color.
Based in Columbus, Ohio, he exhibits widely in solo and group shows, and is an active member of the Worthington Area Art League, the Guild of Artists & Artisans, and the Ohio Art League. He offers commissions, murals, studio visits, and artist talks centered on process and music-informed composition.
