The Pets of Barcelona

“The Pets of Barcelona” celebrates the fuzzy and lovable creatures, past and present, of the Barcelona restaurant staff. Pets serve as a social ice breaker, creating a sense of commonality within the complexities of the human experience. This may be a sassy head tilt of a cat who knows you are stretching the truth when you leave the house and say “I’ll be right back,” or the anticipation in the eyes of a dog waiting for its human to return home. Each pet portrait captures a relatable emotion through the application of bold lines and colors. As you engage with the different pets try to imagine the person who loves them. Their human is likely someone here with you tonight. These dignified creatures are living their best lives with a member of your Barcelona crew who is always ready to serve outstanding cuisine within a warm, welcoming atmosphere. These humans help each of us to create beautiful moments and memories together.  On your next visit to Barcelona, share a photo of your pet and create a new connection.
We all will leave with a treat – a new story to share with our pets when we return home.

Charlotte Belland, B.F.A. & M.F.A., is an illustrator of animals. Her work explores the blending of anatomical accuracy and the beauty of animals with a little sparkle of mischief; the way an animal tilts its head, focuses its eyes, or how it leans into the pose. She is the Chair of the Animation Department at the Columbus College of Art and Design and a Professor of Drawing for Animation. In 2014, Charlotte established CCAD Sketch, a weekly Animal Ambassador drawing program that features wolves, hawks, owls, hookbills, penguins, miniature horses, insects, arachnids, amphibians, and reptiles. Charlotte has hosted animal ambassador drawing sessions at LightBox Expo, Biggest Week in American Birding, and recently co-taught with John Muir Laws for Wild Wonder Foundation at Hog Island Audubon Camp in Maine. Her daily drawing practice includes a routine post to Instagram. For over 10 years, Charlotte has posted a daily animal drawing under the name bellandpixel.
